Money isn’t everything!
Not sure how many of you checked out the interview for MomsCashBlog but I said one sentence that was enough for me to consider never posting the video.
“Ever since I was a kid I have tried to figure out ways to make money…”
Other than the grammar mistakes, this one sentence makes me appear like a money hungry machine. This is not the impression I want to give off and this thought has been running through my head the last couple of days.
I love internet startups, everything about them. As you are aware I have many ideas for some great startup companies. The ideal scenario would be for these companies to explode and make myself and the employees filthy rich.
Then what?
Travel anywhere in the world? Buy anything life desires? Start a hedge fund? Once people get to the financial freedom they desire or finally reach retirement they often do not know what they would do with their spare time.
I overheard a gentleman who worked 35 years as a mechanic and was finally retiring but decided he should still work part-time to keep busy. I don’t think this is the ideal retirement scenario. I really do not know what I would do but I am sure it would be along the lines of helping the next generations of entrepreneurs and philanthropy work.
I truly believe in making donations to help others. This can only do good for society as a whole if donated to the right organizations. I have donated to a couple of organizations in 2008 and will always continue to do so as I make it apart of my routine.
Everyone should do this! Set aside $100 each month to an organization you feel would better the world. If you are already thinking wow $100 seems like a lot, I bet after a few months you would not even notice its missing. You will adapt to the loss or if you are self-employed it might motivate you to work a little extra harder to get that money back.
Anyway that is my thoughts for tonight. Hopefully it is not too preachy. This is just the sort of stuff my brain spits out after thinking about an issue for a few days.

I was just thinking about writing a post like this myself. What good is a person that does no good for the rest of humanity? If you you don’t give back to society, you simply will not succeed.
Great post Pat.

Yes, I never thought you were money hungry either. I’d be interested in hearing some of your other ideas.

Very inspirational, thank you. And hey, if $100 is too much, start at $5 or $10, whatever. As you work up, everyone feels better

Pat, I think a lot of people get mixed up and think that profitable companies are not giving back to humanity and what not. But their very nature they are. It’s all a part of the bigger picture, and if they didn’t deliver any value, they wouldn’t succeed. More so now the customer is taken into more and more consideration, etc. But, also with a profitable business, you can further grow the business.
However a culture of giving is good. I just think that people shouldn’t denigrade profitable businesses or feel bad that making a profitable business is their goal. If you had to compare which is better giving or making a business, it would be very hard, but let’s put this way, just giving couldn’t work, but just running businesses could.
Now, everyone Lambaste me.

You struck me as ambitious and independent, not money hungry. For someone so young, I greatly respect your initiative and drive to build your own business. You’re setting a wonderful example for all aspiring entrepreneurs to just go out and “do it!!”
